Welcome to our RMS Ivernia
website. With
a long and varied career, the Ivernia was a most remarkable ship. The
Ivernia
was built in 1955 for Cunard Line's Dominion service to Canada as the
second of the Saxonia Sisters quartet. In 1963 she was rebuilt and
restyled to make her more suitable for cruising and was renamed
Franconia. At this time she was also repainted in Cunard Line's
cruising green livery like the famous RMS Caronia - the Green Goddess. After
her time with
Cunard she then went on to have a varied career in the Soviet Union's
Far Eastern Shipping Company fleet (1973 to 1980) and later the Black
Sea Shipping Company fleet. She finally was scrapped in Alang,
India in 2004. This website celebrates the history of
this remarkable ship and honours its unique place in maritime history
in the story of Cunard Line's Dominion service to Canada and ocean
travel in the mid to late 20th century. |
