RETURN TO THE
HOMEPAGE
THE CUNARDERS |
|
Welcome to our Queen
Elizabeth website. This website is part of our Cunard Queens website
celebrating
these renowned ocean liners. On the 10th October
2007, Cunard Line made the surprise announcement that it was ordering
another Cunard Queen. This new ship, like the new Queen Victoria, was
also built by Fincantieri
S.p.A., Marghera, Venice, Italy and it entered service in 2010. So despite the retirement of the QE2, soon
Cunard Line soon had a trio of
Cunard Queens in service at the same time once again! Her design is based on that of the Holland America Line
"Signature" class cruise ships such as Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam.
These in turn are a development of the "Vista" class cruise ship
design. The name of the new
Cunarder is Queen Elizabeth in
recognition that this was the name intended for the QE2 and also to
honour of the first Queen Elizabeth and the QE2. She was named in a
ceremony at the Ocean Cruise Terminal in Southampton on the 11th
October 2010 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Like her sister ship, the Queen Victoria, the Queen Elizabeth is sure to set new standards for cruising and continue the legend of the Cunard Queens well into the future. |
