Welcome to our RMS Sylvania
website. With
a long and varied career, the Sylvania was a most remarkable ship. The Sylvania
was built in 1956 for Cunard Line's Dominion service to Canada as the
last of the Saxonia Sisters quartet. After her time with
Cunard she underwent a radical and dramatic rebuild in Italy in 1971
and after this transformation enjoyed a highly successful career with
Sitmar Line cruising in North America. She finally was scrapped in
Alang,
India in 2004. This website celebrates the history of
this remarkable ship and honours its unique place in maritime history
in the story of Cunard Line's Dominion service to Canada and ocean
travel in the mid to late 20th century. |
