RETURN TO THE HOMEPAGE                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       THE CUNARDERS

Welcome to our RMS Queen Mary website, which is part of our Cunard Queens website.  The famous Queen Mary is a national icon and a symbol of man's ability to rise above adversity and achieve a level of creativity that inspires generations to come.

The Queen Mary has had a most illustrious career through war and peace. In the 1930s she had a celebrated rivalry with the great S/S Normandie in a legendary race between the two ships to capture the coveted Blue Riband. She served Britain and the Allies during the Second World War as a troopship with her new sister ship, the RMS Queen Elizabeth.

In the postwar period she operated Cunard Line’s coveted two-ship Atlantic Ferry service from Southampton to New York with the Queen Elizabeth. Eventually in the late 1960s she was honourably retired from service and sailed off to a well earned retirement in the Californian sun where she remains today as a heritage attraction, hotel and conference centre in Long Beach, California, USA.
